One reason I thought the Kuchma clan must go was their concentration of ultimate powers in the President’s hands. That they suddenly want to strip the office of all these excessive (above-the-law, centralist) powers obviously comes from their fear of someone else holding it, but is that a reason for true democrats to suddenly want it?

On the other hand, I can understand Tymoshenko’s fear of the ruling clan attempting to hold to power by tampering the parliamentary elections this time, that and the prove poisoning now —

Ukrayinska Pravda reports:

“The resolution was taken with violations against the constitution, and we will appeal to the constitutional court to recognize it as illegitimate,” - Tymoshenko told journalists.

Tymoshenko called the events in the parliament an “astonishing victory for Leonid Kutchma.”

According to her, the current government will concentrate its money and efforts to regain its majority in the parliament by January 1 and form its administration with the new powers.

“The only thing I’ve achieved was not to have Viktor Andriivych [Yushchenko] vote for this package,” - said Tymoshenko.
