The Second Annual Satin Pajama Awards

…The Satin Pajamas have been delayed because of the webhost migration and some other unforeseen things. The voting will begin soon, within a week at least, so I’ll bump this post again.

‘Tis the season of blog awards, among them our own European Weblog Awards or Satin Pajamas.

Last year I wrote: The purpose of the awards is to recognize the efforts and contributions of Europe’s many talented bloggers, to maybe help build a sense of community among us, and, more than anything, it’s a chance for people to discover lots of new good blogs.

Last year’s awards did just that, and they were great fun. I’m sure this year will be no different.

…I really should clarify the rules. A blog is eligible if it’s written by Europeans or has a European (Czech, Catalan…) theme. Our own blogs aren’t eligible. Finalists are chosen based on the number of nominations as well as editorial discretion. So you want to nominate your favored blog even if someone else already mentioned it.

…Bumped.

  1. I’ll roll out the categories gradually.

I’m thinking of ditching the tech and expat and eu categories. I’ll introduce a Life Time Achievement award, but can’t decide the cutoff date. Maybe some other new categories. What do you think?

  2. You might want to do a best dutch-category, but this might go completely unnoticed, since dutch are pretty europhobic, i think.

  3. Wot,

no best Dutch blog (or even best Beneluz blog)?

    SHAME! SHAME!

Once again the smaller countries are ignored for the socalled powerhouses in Europe! This provincial attitude must cease!

Yes, my blog is Dutch. Why do you ask?

  4. A best ex-pat blog would be good some time in the future, for all those people outside Europe looking back in, and for the outsiders who have come here and give some of their insights into our various lands.

  5. I wanted to point your attention towards a blog that is getting increased attention these days, but is still undiscovered by most people:
    http://niquel757.blogspot.com

The blog includes good links, paintings, pictures and a mix of interesting and funny posts, and I think it is a good example of several things:
-word of outh advertising (it has gotten +1100 visits since 7th December)
-the value of promoting other sites without asking anything back
-the advantages and pitfalls of making a blog that attracts a wide audience and
-the pressures on the blogger, as he start to see the traffic increase, to the quality of the posts (what may start as a hobby, may well turn into a business
