Terrorism

Bomb In Barcelona

by Edward Hugh

This is really a clarificatory post. The bomb which exploded outside the Italian cultural institute in Barcelona this morning does *not* appear to have any relation with international terrorism. Radio reports suggest it is the work of a group of ‘anti-system’ anarchists protesting about arrests of some of their co-thinkers in Italy. Fortunately I don’t think even the police dog was badly hurt.

Having witnessed international anarchism in action at first hand here in Edinburgh during the last week or so, I am confident that their overwhelming incompetence at all basic organisational tasks will guarantee the continued survival of the capitalist system for many decades to come.

This comes at a time when I’ve been thinking of the parallels of the GWOT and the anarchist movement of the late-19th/early 20th centuries. OTOH anarchists would have that “organizational” deficit when compared to modern terrorists. But OTO, they were far more successful, despite the advantages modern terrorists have in money, communication, travel, and access to information. Anarchists were able to off presidents, kings, emperor’s wives and all sorts of important political and economic figures. While it doesn’t seem assassination has gotten much use internationally lately, still I think the fact that Islamic terrorists haven’t “accomplished” anything like this (yet)striking
