General management
by David Weman
I’m finally done, about three weeks too late. Go vote.
Btw, we lost the page for last years awards, but you can look at it here.
…The polls will close on Friday.
…20:00.
Update (by Tobias, 23:43 CET) - I’ve seen some nominees use screenshots of our lovely satin pajama wearing teddy bear in order to visually enhance a post about their nomination, but that’s clearly not overly convenient. So I’ve made three banners in different sizes. I hope that one of them fits your needs. You can find the banners below the fold.
Just link to the images or save the HTML below to your server.
Banner 1, 137×60px

Banner 2, 88×31px

Banner 3, 200×26px

The link to last year’s awards doesn’t seem to work.
Thanks for the nomination for this year!

Hi, thanks for the nomination (Early Modern Notes). But someone got me name wrong: it’s Sharon Howard, not Sharon Castell. Can it be fixed?
February 14th, 2006 at 2:08 am
David, are you *really* sure the nomination inbest german weblog should go to “Wos waas a Fremda?”, instead of the Küchenkabinett?
Just checking, ’cause I’m slightly flabbergasted.
February 14th, 2006 at 2:10 am
I mean flabbergasted in a good way. Or do I? Or what? Help! Mommy!
February 14th, 2006 at 7:00 am
Sharon, not without resetting the votes I don’t think. What an odd mistake, sorry.
February 14th, 2006 at 7:17 am
TH, no mixup, though the process ws a bit random. I had to delegate pickng german and french blogs.
February 14th, 2006 at 8:20 am
David, thanks for the clarification.

A report via my Mum - who is most disgruntled she couldn’t vote for number one son - apparently the voting page is barred by British Telecom’s servers (the company’s servers, not BT Internet, which works fine).
The reason? Drugs are mentioned somewhere on the page.
February 14th, 2006 at 2:47 pm
I’m trying to think what site might have a word for drugs in their name, but can’t think of anything. Sure it’s not ‘twat’ that’s the problem?

Thank you for the nomination in the Best Central European cat for the beatroot and what you refer to as Polish Style
In fact the Polish Style blog’s real name is P3 - and I warned them when we were picking the URL that this would be confusing for people!
But p3 it is.

I’ve correted the errors.

Thanks for including Jamaica in the European Weblog awards. Could you update my address. I left blogspot a while back.
February 14th, 2006 at 11:19 pm
Thanks for the nomination. I’ve known all my life I am underappreciated!
February 15th, 2006 at 10:14 am
Hi,
Just thought that I would point out the rather obvious point that picking the “Most Underappreciated Weblog” by vote is obviously silly. At best, you might be able to get the “Most Appreciated of the Ten Most Underappreciated Blogs That We Picked” or something like that.
Sorry for being so anal. It’s very late at night in NYC (that’s my excuse).
Keep up all your good work.
All best…
February 15th, 2006 at 10:48 am
A lot of perople have written that, and I don’t see it. Most underappreciated means most deserving of wider recognition. Least ppopular relatve to how popular they deserve to be.
Yeah, I know, they just think it sounds amusing. Well, they’re WRONG!!!
February 15th, 2006 at 2:57 pm
The polls will close on Friday.
February 15th, 2006 at 4:14 pm
Have to say - this is the only awards thingy I’ve ever been involved with where people are actually clicking through to read the blog before voting.
So congratulations, like.
February 15th, 2006 at 4:51 pm
Cool.
Does anyone know the names of the two unidentified culture blog finalists?
February 15th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
David,
First of all, many thanks for including my blog “amateur d’art”.
My writing name (instead of “some French person”) is Lunettes Rouges. Do you want my real name ?
The other culture finalist is known as Ruines Circulaires; you can write to him at ruinescirculaires@gmail.com .
I found it very interesting that 3 of the five culture blogs are by Frenchmen (and a fourth by a Belgian).
I am posting now on my blog regarding this contest, which I just leaned about today.
Best

David, I have written ruinescirculaires. He wishes to be known as “Tlön”
February 15th, 2006 at 8:21 pm
Fixed, thank you all.
Tarquine has just overtaken Petite!
February 15th, 2006 at 8:44 pm
David: “the process ws a bit random. I had to delegate pickng german and french blogs.”
Hmm, why do I get the impression that you are not really interested in awarding the best German blog?
Now I have probably given the impression that I don’t appreciate your nomination of the Atlantic Review. Actually, I do very much. I was just surprised that only four blogs were nominated.
When does voting close on Friday?
February 16th, 2006 at 11:59 am
I was one of the delegees for choosing the German finalists, and can assure everyone that only the highest-quality, most scientific and Teutonically thorough methods were used to throw darts at the names on the wall and see which blogs got nominated. No, seriously, I read the list of nominations and lotsa blog entries and used my best judgement. Good luck to all the finalists.
February 16th, 2006 at 2:32 pm
When do polls close on Friday? Roughly.
February 16th, 2006 at 3:20 pm
Thanks, Doug.
I appreciate that. It is an honor to be nominated.
