I was just wondering why there weren't, as far as I can remember, ozone deniers funded by some tobacco-lobby network. And fuck me, one rocks up in the comments!

Actually, there is ongoing scandal (understandably underreported by media) related to ozone depletion. More and more scientific publications (notably from 2007 Nobel Prize winner Gerhard Ertl) indicate that role of man-made CFC in ozone depletion was overestimated by at least factor of ten. This is confirmed by appearance of biggest ever measured ozone hole over Antarctica in 2006. Year 2008 ozone hole was fifth biggest. Ozone hole is natural phenomena, appearing every year over Antarctica, during polar winter (six months of no sunshine – including ozone-forming UV rays).

They are playing for time and hope to use the recession to wipe out support for carbon limitations. I think they'll succeed.

[...] Alex Harrowell at A Firstful of Euros provided me with some new examples of why cap-and-trade systems are a really bad idea. I’m not sure he’s against cap-and-trade like I am, but he makes the point that a carbon tax is a lot simpler to enforce, and a lot less prone to political influence trading.
