What they indicate for France is that second quarter GDP growth in France was mainly driven by a rise in net export volumes. However, upon closer examination, the rise in net exports is itself largely due to a decline in imports, which is not a particularly good omen for a growth rebound. Real recovery will materialise only when domestic demand recovers. The breakdown of German GDP should be released tomorrow. Let's hope that the data will show that the recent uptick in Germany's 2Q GDP is not based on declining imports.
