This shit site just killed my carefully written comment. What the hell are you techno-illiterates???

I find ti curious that the article doesn't mention the fact that Germany's employment ration reached a record high in 2008. What is the point of this article? Of course employment declined somewhat due to the worst crisis since the Great depression but what is remarkable is how little it has declined, compared say to the US. So what is the motivation of this peculiarly selective analysis?

How long this artificial subsidized employment can be sustained?

It is clear that economies with high export dependence are hit by recession extremely heavily. Lets look at Eastern Europe. The 4 bads are Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia. Slovenia is the fourth (-8,8% in Q2 09 y/y). Latvia is not worth a discussion, because it is Iceland 2 with its failed PAREX bank, but unhappily inside of EU and therefore without maenuvre space as Iceland. Lithuania is destroyed by Polish zloty devaluation.

But Estonia with its 0% sovereign debt, and Slovenia with its early EUR accession, are hit also terribly. Because they are enormous export dependent and due to size effect they can not set up significant stimulus programmes (of size 5% of GDP).
