According to the 2007 Big Mac Index, the Ukrainian hryvnia was 40 percent undervalued.

The policy of keeping the hrvynia undervalued benefits Ukraine's metal-exporting oligarchs and hurts consumers. I call this policy McDonbas.

In 2007, a member of the Yanukovych Cabinet made a Freudian slip when he referred to the dollar as Ukraine's "national currency."
