Euro 2008 open thread

One thought from the first match: qualification form seems to matter. Russia scraped into the tournament. They had some nice touches but the gulf in quality showed. Would England have been picked apart the same way?

Boy is Sweden-Greece exciting! It’s like grass growing! Or maybe trees! At any rate, a thrill a month — at leas!!

Fortunately, there’s Ibrahimovic. 1-0. Now we can go back to sleep.

  3. Jacob Christensen Says:

Oh well. A messy, messy 2-0. But still an uninspiring match.

They’re moving? When did that start?

  5. David Weman Says:

Haha! Being hatefully boring didn’t get them anything this time.

Someone put that goal on youtube.

  6. Guy Says:

Agree with David. Brilliant goal by Zlatan. The second one was brilliant in its “fumbleness”, though. Loved the yellow stands.

Anti-football only gets you so far. The Greek got lucky once, but this time around the emperor was shown to have no clothes. Once they came behind and had to start playing actual football, they were lost.

But then again, I cannot really blame them. You have to make do with what you’ve got.

  7. Guy Says:

And kudos to Spain. Hope they continue in the same vein.

  8. Doug Merrill Says:

    ¡Viva Rossiya!

They’re the only ones to show that more than one team can score in a game…
