  1. Oh, yes. One of the very few positive legacies of the Ceausescu era: Romania has a strong technical tradition. Lots of good programs in math and engineering. Romanian HS kids tend to be very tech-y, much more so than Americans or Brits.

    There’s a huge IT cluster out in Timisoara (near where Serbia, Romania and Hungary come together) — a lot of Italian and Dutch money.

    But it’s not all that widely known, no.
